This morning I discovered a draft in my WordPress blog titled “Back to School”, dated May 26th, 2011. I opened it, and smiled. I can still feel the excitement (and silliness) I was experiencing during the first week of classes, almost a full year ago. It’s amazing how time flies (on one hand) and how it also seems like a million years ago.
Almost 1 year ago I had extra money in the bank, and decided to take 2 full months off to give my business a complete makeover.
Here’s what I said on the first day of BSchool:
Yippee!! It’s back to school day for me. Business School that is!
I really am excited. I LOVE, love being in school. Learning new things, meeting new people, working on projects and seeing how things come out in the end. I love the project deadlines, and making a ‘new best friend’.
But today’s first class is giving me some grief. I’ve been working on new business plan ideas, but I’m not quite ready yet. And the assignment today has me jumping in under the assumption that I know what I want to do when I grow up. I think I’m in trouble.
I had no idea how significant that statement was at the time. I was on the cusp of making so many new “best friends”. Friends who would be there to watch my back, support me through the scary ups and downs of business life, and give me the most amazing feedback I’ve ever experienced. And, although I’m still not sure I know what I want to be when I grow up, I’m pretty clear on what I want to do for the next 6 months to a year. And that’s a great start for me. Bschool truly changed my life.
Not only did I make new, amazing friends, but I have a much deeper love for marketing & product creation. I learned I wasn’t the only “multi-passionate” business owner around (not even close). I’ve launched pilot programs, written ebooks, found a new love of short feedback/tutorial style videos. I jumped in with both feet and tried – and I failed. And I got back up and tried again. Which was nearly effortless when you have an amazing community backing you up.
I think I might actually be more excited about Bschool this time round, than I was in my “yipee!!” post ~ if that’s possible.
I’ve mentioned it here before, on the blog. But if you haven’t yet had a chance to see what’s Marie Forleo has planned for this next season of RHH Bschool why not pop over now and look at her free video series, jammed packed with “note taking” business savvy tips
And of course, there’s no commitments, unsubscribe any time – etc, etc
p.s. I’m a proud affiliate of bschool
