Arthur left the farm in Saskatchewan when the war when he heard about available work at the Canadian Car and Foundry in Fort William, Ontario, Canada. They had started building planes, most notably the Hurricane X there, and with jobs having been in such short supply during the depression it would have given him new hope for his future.
He built planes at Canadian Car and Foundry, Fort William, Ontario, Canada from 1941 until 1949.

They had two children in the mid 40's and raised them on Norah Street in Fort William, Ontario, Thunder Bay.
He was involved in the board at the church that eventually became Redwood Alliance Church.
In the late 60's both of his children married and he had two new grandchildren by 1970.
Art loved to go on trips and was known for driving 18 hours without taking much more than a lunch break. He often traveled to see his family and his wife's family in Alberta.
He purchased a property in Arizona where they liked to spend winters but sold it prior to building a new home in a newly developed subdivision of Thunder Bay in 1980.
