The family moved to [https://www.wikiwand.com/en/Wayland,_Michigan Wayland, Michigan] shortly after she was born, and when she was 2 years old her brother [[Campbell-40775 Elias]] was born. The following year her father [[Campbell-40675 Morrill Campbell]] passed away at the age of 51. He passed away in Allegan, Allegan, Michigan, United States about 25 miles away from their home. Her Mom remarried the following year in Indiana and had 4 more children with Mr. Francis H. Coates. In the 1880 United States the family were living in Newton, Indiana. Her stepfather was 31 and a farmer, and her mother was keeping house. The children at home were Charlie (12), Hattie (10), Flora (4), Wallie (1), Anna M. It had a huge impact on farming communities where young people worked closely together, as the Spanish flu targetted the 20-40-year-old population. This, combined with casualties from the first world war, it's likely that Lillie and Frank both lost friends during those years. While we don't know for sure, it's possible there were some miscarriages during these years as her only other child was born three years later, in October 1922. But it's also possible that Frank was simply away from home a lot. There was a lot of unrest in the country from young men who were avoiding being [https://www.warmuseum.ca/firstworldwar/history/life-at-home-during-the-war/recruitment-and-conscription/conscription-1917/ conscripted into WWI].
