Facebook has relaxed its rules about sweepstake-style contests, so make sure you familiarize yourself both with the Facebook promotion rules and any rules applicable to running sweepstake-style contests in your state, province or shire. (And you no longer have to use third-party Apps on Facebook.)

But sweepstakes aren’t the only way to go. When it comes to contest types, also consider running:

• Affiliate Holiday contests

• Photo contests

• Random Draws

• Vote-to-win

• Instant Win

• “Best _________ ” (e.g. “Best three-line reason on why you deserve this prize.”)

You can also run email contests, contests on other social sites – and contests on your blog or website.

Don’t make the prize too big – but do make it irresistible to your target customer or client!
